How to Send a Message to the Guests of an Event Created By a Facebook Fan Page

A few months ago when I created an event through one of my fan pages on Facebook, I discovered that I could not send a message to the guests list. After some searching and consulting with friends I found the solution on Facebook’s FAQ page:
As the admin of a fan page, you cannot message your guests. You have to appoint someone else to be the admin of the event. Then, he will be able to send the guests a message for you.
(I have no idea why that is, of course).
To appoint someone else to be the admin of your event, simply look him up in the guests list and click of the ‘Make Admin’ button next to his name.

Thanks for this. My reading of the faq was that you could appoint yourself to be the event admin or that you could appoint someone else and they could appoint you, but this is NOT the case. I’ve been very confused for the past hour, but then I found your post. This seems like a really wrong-headed design: you either need two people to run an event or you need two identities, which is something facebook tries to discourage.
Moreover, while this was probably designed as an anti-spam measure, I think it makes Facebook more spammy: I always get messages from people I don’t know about events I only vaguely remember being invited to (I was, of course, invited by someone else). Now I understand why this happens!
I always ignore those messages since I never know what they are talking about, and I look for some way to block this user who is, apparently, blocking me. I think this is one of the suckier things about facebook. If someone were spamming me I could unfriend them or block them, but as it is, I can’t figure out what’s going on. Who invited me? who sent this? I don’t know them, so how were they able to send it? It’s just confusing, especially if I declined an event. If I decline an event, they should not be able to message me.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I really do like facebook and REALLY appreciate your post!
It doesn't works for me.. Any ideas ?
Did you create the event from another user and tried to give access to yourself? cause it doesn't work.
Try to ask someone else to attend the event, and make him an admin. Then he should see 'Message Guests'.
Thanks for your answer.
I am the administrator Facebook Fan Page. I create an public event from this page. I try to give the admin right to an external person. But nothings change, he tell me that he didn't see the functionality 'Message Guests'.
If you want you can make me an admin and I'll check if I see this option. (If so, send me the link to the event).
Did you ever check to see if you can still do this because i just tried it and it didn't work. Have you found any other way I could send out a message to all the people invited. They are not all fans of the fan page.
did see it lately.
Let me know if you succeed…
hey thank you for your advice. i tried and assigned 3 other people as admins and they can't either. can you help?
send me a link to the event and I'll check it out
This worked for me on an event in April 2010. But it doesn't today. GGgggg
I can’t do it either – July 24th
this work around option has been taken off too almost 4 months ago.
